The Fondation Folon on the La Hulpe estate
It’s very unlikely that the industrialist Ernest Solvay really had delusions of grandeur. It's just that he loved peace and quiet and nature, that's all. Which, after the worldwide development of his chemicals empire (the famous Solvay soda), induced him to buy a property that can only be described as... royal. It parks, ponds, castles and outbuildings are visited today by all kinds of people who love enchanting walks. The farmhouse of the main castle now houses the Fondation Folon, which shows all the techniques used by the prolific artist: painting, engraving, watercolours, sculptures in wood or bronze, tapestry and stained glass among others. There appears to be no limit to the output of the illustrator whose popularity has spread worldwide. A felicitous and secluded site on an estate which itself seems without limits, since it covers more than two hundred hectares...

 Royal Museum of Central Africa
This unique collection of artefacts, the best known of which are its masks and sculptures, along with other ritual or more everyday objects, illustrates the richness of cultural expression in Africa and the diversity of popular cultures there. The geology and mineralogy rooms display the evolution of the Earth’s crust, the phenomena of change (in particular, erosion) and vulcanology ; magnificent specimens of mineral and organic rocks are on show. Equatorial wildlife is presented in the form of countless varieties of insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals, often in a setting that faithfully reproduces their original natural environment. Next, a succession of riveting historical testaments evokes the exploration of Central Africa and the first major Belgian projects in this region during the colonial era. Archaeology enthusiasts can also take a trip back to their sources: exhibits from the Iron Age to the Palaeolithic period are displayed. A large room depicts the economy of the tropics and agricultural plants, plus the forests and minerals which were, as they are today, the focus of much attention.
